85+8=70?

There is nothing wrong at this equation, actually it is the bargaining power of buyers!

Today, I went to a store to buy squash racket and ball with Seray. And I could find 2 stores that sell rackets and I decided to buy Wilson from one of them. And we started to talk about price almost 10 minutes maybe more than it. And, that equation came to scene =)

Sales person said to me "It is a good one, we are selling it at the price of 85TL but I can give it for 70TL for you. And the ball is 8 TL, it will be 5 TL for you." I said that I cannot afford to pay 75 TL for those equipments, I will buy if you sell them for 70 TL, both racket and ball, in CASH. It was the keyword for sales man I think.

If the store would have loss from that price, he could not sell me for 70 TL. In fact, there is still a profit margin for them. However, a person who is bad at bargaining would pay 93 TL or 90 TL for those equipment while I am buying them for only 70 TL.

As you know, there is too much bargain margin at small stores in Turkey. To use it for advantage, you should try and use all the advantages of being a real buyer. If you are only looking to products with no interest, they would say probably higher prices and they would not show attention to you. However, as a real buyer with cash, you can get high discounts from sales person that you talked!

It was a good market experience for me, and I surprised that I could achieve it. I know that it is a basic thing, there is nothing to see as a big experience but it was the evidence of buyer power in the Porter's 5 Forces for me =)

At the end, yes it is true that 85+8=70, if I am wrong, ask to Seray!
